WAR CHORALE

With: BHEKI KHOZA etc

WHERE/ WHEN: St George's Cathedral (Wed Sept 30, from 7pm)

Composed and directed by Bheki Khoza in response to a short novella by Chilean author and activist, Fernando Alegria, War Chorale is a musical exploration into the slipperiness of history, love and memory, and the nearly invisible line that separates fiction from reality.

A 100% Zulu Boy who speaks Mbaqanga jazz, Khoza studied with bebop elders like Jackie Maclean (among others) in the US in the 90s before returning to Berea, Johannesburg, to found his own jazz collective and school. A consummate composer and producer, Khoza acted as musical director for the films Sophiatown (2003) and Drum (2004) and recently garnered widespread acclaim for his arrangements on Simphiwe Dana's album One Love Movement On Bantu Biko Street (2007).

War Chorale is made possible with the kind support of mmino, the south african-norwegian music education and exchange cooperation.
